The European Union, in collaboration with several development partners, has unveiled a Digital Hub for Women in Kano, aimed at expanding digital literacy, entrepreneurial skills, and economic empowerment opportunities for women and girls in northern Nigeria.

The centre is designed to serve as a safe, accessible space where women can learn digital skills ranging from basic computer use to advanced online business tools, digital marketing, and innovation-based entrepreneurship. The initiative also includes mentorship programmes, access to digital resources, and support for women-led startups.

According to EU representatives, the project forms part of the EU’s commitment to gender equality, digital inclusion, and socio-economic development in Nigeria. By equipping women with digital competencies, the hub seeks to enhance their participation in the digital economy, boost financial independence, and bridge the gender gap in technology.

Local partners and community stakeholders praised the project, noting that it comes at a critical time when digital skills have become essential for economic advancement. The hub is expected to support thousands of women annually through structured training, workshops, and collaboration with local organisations.

The EU emphasized that empowering women with digital skills not only drives personal growth but also supports broader community development and economic resilience across the region.
