Semrush’s latest research shows that Quora is among the most frequently cited domains by Google’s AI Mode responses, highlighting a shift in how Google sources content for its AI summaries.

In the study, Semrush found that Google often draws from Quora when generating summary answers, rating it as the “most commonly cited” domain in AI Overviews.

Reddit follows closely behind in citations, demonstrating that user-generated question-and-answer platforms now occupy essential roles in the AI-answer ecosystem.

The findings carry major implications for content strategy. As Google leans on Quora and similar platforms, having your knowledge or content appear on those sites may influence whether AI responses link back to you.

Semrush also notes that queries triggering AI Overviews have climbed to about 13 % of all searches. That means more users may see summarized answers first — without ever clicking deeper.

For brands, this raises new stakes. To earn visibility in AI Mode, it won’t be enough to just rank in search — you’ll also need to show up in the sources Google trusts. Quora’s prominence signals that participating in Q&A platforms, producing expert content there, or getting cited on those platforms may now factor into your AI discoverability strategy.
