DJI Neo 2 Unveiled: Lightest Follow-Me Drone With Full Obstacle Detection

Read Time:1 Minute
DJI today launched the Neo 2 in China, a compact drone that weighs around 151 grams yet offers advanced follow-me tracking and all-direction obstacle avoidance to make flying easier and safer.

The Neo 2 retains the palm-launch convenience of its predecessor, but introduces a 1/2-inch camera sensor, dual-axis gimbal stabilization, and 4K video at up to 60fps with slow-motion capacity. It uses an omnidirectional sensor array combining forward-view LiDAR, down-facing infrared, and side/rear vision modules, enabling detection of obstacles in multiple directions and better reliability in flight.

Flight time is also improved, thanks to a larger 1 606 mAh battery, and overheating or drift issues in windier conditions appear to have been addressed. The drone can maintain stability even in winds up to about 24 mph (approx 10.7 m/s). Weighing under the 250 g regulatory threshold in many jurisdictions, the Neo 2 targets everyday content creators, social-media storytellers and casual flyers who want high-end features without pro-level complexity.

Availability for markets outside China is still somewhat uncertain: DJI has announced a European rollout on November 13, 2025, while U.S. distribution faces regulatory hurdles and no confirmed launch date. With the Neo 2, DJI signals that even ultra-compact drones are now capable of serious imaging and tracking technology formerly reserved for larger machines. For consumers and creators in Nigeria and across Africa this means access to lighter gear that’s easier to travel with and less burdened by regulation.

However, buyers should keep in mind that global pricing, local warranty and support conditions may vary, and features like certified follow-me flight legality differ by country. For best results users will want to check local drone-regulation regimes before purchase.
