Kenya has launched the eLearning and Information Technology Institute under the Kenya School of Government, expanding its focus on digital learning, emerging technologies and public-sector research.

The launch coincided with the graduation of 1,239 public officers who completed the UNESCO–Oxford Programme on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation in Government, according to TechAfrica News.

The institute builds on earlier digital-learning structures and is intended to bring together information and communications technology training, research, advisory services and partnerships. Demonstrations at the launch included virtual-reality simulations, artificial-intelligence applications and AI agents developed for potential deployment through Konza Technopolis.

Building public-sector capability

AI adoption in government depends on more than access to tools. Public institutions also need staff who can evaluate systems, manage data responsibly, improve services and identify where automation is appropriate. Training can help close capability gaps, although its impact will depend on practical deployment and ongoing evaluation.

The institute also plans to extend digital-skills learning to communities through grassroots initiatives. The challenge now is to translate training into measurable improvements in public service delivery and broader access to digital opportunity.
