MTN Nigeria has announced a major connectivity initiative to link 8 million homes across the country to high-speed fibre broadband by 2028, reinforcing its commitment to deepening digital access and strengthening Nigeria’s digital economy.
According to the telecom operator, the project will significantly enhance fixed broadband penetration and bridge the connectivity gap between urban centers and semi-urban communities. The plan aligns with Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan (NBP 2020–2025), which targets 70 percent broadband coverage by mid-decade.
MTN said the fibre rollout will be driven by strategic partnerships with network infrastructure companies, regulatory agencies, and technology providers. The company’s executives added that the initiative is part of a broader effort to provide affordable, reliable, and secure internet for households and small businesses.
Experts believe the project could transform the broadband landscape, enabling smarter cities
