Nigeria’s Federal Government has launched a digital data platform intended to help attract investment into the country’s tourism and creative industries, with a stated ambition for the sectors to contribute $100 billion to gross domestic product and create more than three million jobs by 2030.
The Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, announced the platform, known as D30 or Destination 2030, in Abuja on Tuesday, according to a report by Punch Newspapers.
Addressing the data gap
The platform is designed to give investors, public institutions and businesses access to information about tourism and creative industries, including opportunities and infrastructure gaps. The government has identified limited reliable, accessible industry data as an obstacle to investment decisions.
For businesses in film, music, fashion, tourism, events and related services, better data could help demonstrate market size, identify underserved locations and make investment proposals more evidence-based. The platform’s value will ultimately depend on how regularly its information is updated, how detailed it becomes and whether investors can use it to assess specific opportunities.
Execution will determine the outcome
The $100 billion and three-million-job goals are government ambitions, not outcomes guaranteed by the platform itself. Reaching them would require investment in infrastructure, skills, financing, distribution and reliable measurement of economic activity across the sectors.
The next test is whether D30 becomes a practical source of decision-grade data for local and international investors, rather than simply a directory of opportunities.
