Morocco’s Authenticity and Modernity Party has agreed to form a coalition government with three other parties, creating a parliamentary bloc of 207 seats in the 395-seat legislature, Reuters reported.
The coalition includes moderate socialist groups and the nationalist Istiqlal party. Together, the parties exceed the 198 seats required for a majority and are expected to propose a cabinet lineup as the government-formation process continues.
The new administration faces a demanding agenda, including major infrastructure commitments ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, alongside public pressure over jobs, education and healthcare. Youth dissatisfaction and concerns about economic opportunity were prominent issues around the recent election period.
Policy delivery will be the test
A parliamentary majority can make it easier for a government to pass legislation, but it does not guarantee that policy commitments will be delivered. The coalition will need to coordinate priorities, budgets and implementation across its partners while responding to public expectations.
For businesses and investors, attention will turn to the cabinet’s economic priorities, infrastructure procurement, workforce policies and the stability of the regulatory environment. The coalition agreement establishes a governing arrangement; specific programmes and decisions will show how it translates into action.
