Samsung Electronics plans to unveil its first trifold smartphone during the upcoming APEC summit in Gyeongju, South Korea, giving a global audience a first look at its next foldable innovation.

The device is expected to feature two hinges that let it fold into three panels. In its compact form, it behaves like a regular smartphone; when fully open, it offers a tablet-sized display of around 10 inches.

Reports suggest the unveiling will occur on the sidelines of the APEC event, with the new phone displayed under glass rather than handled by attendees. A commercial launch is expected to follow later in the year.

Samsung already leads the foldable phone market with its Galaxy Z Fold and Flip lines. By introducing a trifold model, it aims to push the envelope in display and hinge engineering and attract early adopters willing to pay premium for cutting-edge tech.

Still, challenges remain. The complexity of dual hinges, component durability, and cost could limit initial production and target markets. Some reports say early batches may be small and concentrated in high-income regions.

As Samsung unveils this ambitious product, all eyes will watch whether it can deliver reliability and value to justify a trifold form — while competitors like Huawei already trialed triple folding in China.
